How-to Transfer Files Using WinSCP

To securely transfer files to and from Avanti, we recommend using an SFTP client, such as WinSCP. This article guides you through the setup need to use WinSCP.

Before you can get started, you'll need to: 

  • Download WinSCP, if it's not already installed.
  • Locate the email from Avanti. 

Important Information
If you're uploading a database, be sure that the database isn't encrypted. We're unable to restore encrypted databases. 

Open WinSCP and Login

Step 1: Open WinSCp and enter the following information

Hostname: Update.Avanti.ca
Port Number: 2222 or 22
Username: Av<YourAvantiSerialNumber>
The username is case-sensitive. For example, if your serial number is ASI01234, your username is AvASI01234.
Password: Provided by Avanti. For security reasons, this information is provided over the phone. 

Step 2: Select Advanced, then confirm that the following are deselected in Authentication, then select OK

  •  Attempt authentication using Pageant
  • Attempt "keyboard-interactive' authentication


Step 3: Select Login to access the SFTP site. Once you've logged in, you're ready to upload or download files. 


Upload Files for Avanti

Once you've logged into WinSCP, you'll find the: 

  • Your network files is on the screen's left side.
  • The SFTP site is on the screen's right side.


Step 1: On the left side, select the directory of the file your sending to Avanti. 

Step 2: Navigate the subfolder the file is located in, if necessary. 

Step 3: Select the file to upload from the left side of the screen, then drag it to the right side. 

Step 4: Once the file finishes uploading and let your contact at Avanti know the file is available. 


Download Files from Avanti

Once you've logged into WinSCP, you'll find the: 

  • Your network files is on the screen's left side.
  • The SFTP site is on the screen's right side.


Step 1: On the left side, select the directory you'd like to save the file in from the dropdown. 

Step 2: Navigate the subfolder you'd like to save the file, if desired. 

Step 3: Select the file to download from the right-hand screen, then select F6 to download. 

Step 4:  Once the file finishes downloading and you've confirmed the file opens, delete the file from the right side of the SFTP site.
